The Magic Bullet Blender Review – Sharing My Experience

The Magic Bullet has a motor power of only 250 watts, which I’ve used thousands of times. It’s a great fit for single-serve smoothies and small recipes and not drinks made with crushed ice. I will share my own personal experience with this decent yet cheap model in the magic bullet blender review below so you can determine if it’s really the right fit for you.

The Magic Bullet Blender Review – Sharing My Experience

The Magic Bullet line of products includes the Baby Bullet, the Desert bullet, the NutriBullet, the Magic Bullet To Go, the Magic Bullet Mini, the Bullet Express, and the Party Bullet. It is currently being sold in over 50 countries.

This conveniently sized model was designed to help create more space by replacing other larger appliances such as a blender, food processor, and electric juicer.

In May of 2018, Fox affiliate KTTV in Los Angeles obtained test videos from the NutraBullet, which appeared to show the machine exploding, and some consumers said they had been injured. Fourteen people had since sued the company saying they were either cut or burned when their NutraBullet exploded. The company has denied responsibility for the consumer’s injuries.

Well, I’ve never experienced an explosion with any of the 3 magic bullets I’ve owned.

However, here are the pros and cons I did experience…

The Magic Bullet Blender for Smoothies

The Good & the Bad

The Good

PRO #1 – It’s inexpensive for decent quality.

PRO #2 – Makes either thick or thin smoothies.

PRO #3 – Crushes light nuts like walnuts, chia seeds, and hemp seeds to make nut butter and smoothies a breeze.

PRO #4 – Mixes avocado and all ingredients needed to create guacamole dip very well.

PRO #5 – Cups are dishwasher safe.

PRO #6 – Cups are microwave safe.

PRO #7 – Easy to store on the counter-top and in the cubboard.

The Bad

CON #1 – Cannot crush hazelnuts or other tough nuts.

CON #2 – Smoothie lids sometimes leak especially when filled to the top with liquid. Make sure to leave some space before blending to help prevent this.

CON #3 – It is known to have a short shelf life if you, especially if you plan to use it every day. However, if you are only using it occasionally, then it should last at least 2 years.

CON #4 – Offers only a 1-year warranty.

CON #5 – There have been complaints about the NutraBullet machine overheating and exploding, causing injury. The company warns customers not to allow the machine to blend for longer than one minute at a time to prevent this from happening.

CON #6 –  Makes single-cup quantities only.

CON #7 – The inside of the base is difficult to clean.

I’ve gone through 3 magic bullets in the past 10 years and still own and use them almost every day.

However, I’m definitely ready for an upgrade to make larger quantities and decided to write another review on what blenders to consider buying and why? If you feel the same and would like to check out more affordable yet great quality blenders, you can do so right here!

Who is the Magic Bullet for?

If you are a single person or the only one in your household that is just interested in occasionally making simple smoothies and dips, then the Magic Bullet will be a great fit for you.

The quality is decent for the price it sells for. I’ve had 3 magic bullets and kept replacing them because I liked using them, and it was all I really needed to use over the years. I currently still use it almost every day for my simple ingredient single-cup smoothies with these recipes.

Magic Bullet Tools & Training

The Magic Bullet comes with;

  • one of two screw-on blade attachments (the cross blade used for chopping foods and crushed ice)
  • two mixing cups, one short, one tall
  • two-handled cups (called the manufacturer’s “Party Mugs”) and colored “Comfort Rings” that screw over the threads for easy drinking.
  • Lids intended for storing foods or making smoothies on the go.
  • An instruction manual with a recipe book (Magic Bullet 10 Second Recipes and Owner Manual) featuring recipes from the infomercial and others.

Other add-ons you can purchase separately include;

  • perforated lids for the cups used to ventilate items cooked in the cup when using the microwave oven and to dispense hard foods that have been ground using the appliance
  • a flat blade (used for chopping harder foods and for whipping)
  • manual juice extractor attachment

My Final Opinion of the Magic Bullet

For the price, the magic bullet is a great buy. It is a small blender that is compact and easy to store. You can make almost any kind of simple recipe smoothie and simple dips you like.

NOTE: It’s important that you do not run the magic bullet for more than one minute to prevent overheating and pressure build-up. This could cause the cup to burst and cause personal injury.

I’ve never experienced a problem like this with my blender, as I’ve always made sure not to let it mix for longer than 10-20 seconds at a time. I would also make sure to open up the lid to release some pressure (because I noticed it happens when I mix very warm and hot foods and liquids).

This can be inconvenient when you want to walk away and attend to another task in your kitchen.

I find the magic bullet is not best suited for me anymore. I’m ready to create more delicious vegetarian and vegan recipes for my family and me to enjoy, so I need something larger and blends better than the magic bullet can create.

If I were to consider buying another magic bullet, I would definitely splurge and spend a few extra dollars and buy the Magic Bullet Kitchen Express. It would be worth it for the food processor attachment.

Or consider the NutriBullet Pro 900 because the power ranges from 600 watts up to 1700 watts. Therefore, the Magic Bullet is best used for simple soft ingredients, and the NutriBullet is best used for ice, nuts, and coffee beans.

Verdict: Legit or Not Legit

The Magic Bullet smoothie machine is definitely a decent product for the price you pay. I say go for it and buy one if you want to make simple single-cup smoothies and recipes. I still use mine almost every day!

However,

Many reviews I’ve read displayed a 2 to a 3-star rating. Many customers stated that their magic bullet broke, parts were missing, leaking, or they experienced customer service issues, all of which I’ve never experienced myself.

If you’re looking for a higher quality blender with a great warranty, you can read about them here to see which one is best suited for you.

Or learn why hemp seeds are highly nutritious and that putting some into a smoothie tastes great too!

  1. Thank you for sharing this information, as I have found it extremely useful.

Your review has thankfully confirmed that it is not the one for me.  While I don’t like spending a lot of money on kitchen equipment, I like the products I do buy to do everything I need.  Its inability to chop large nuts and ice would not meet my requirements.  I would also be worried about using it for too long and it over heating.

It also has far too short a life span for my liking and the fact that you have had 3, doesn’t encourage me to buy one either.

Without your review I would not have been aware of these points and would have been disappointed with my purchase.

I will use your link to check out some of the higher up models.

    Thanks for your help.

    • Thank you, Geoff!

I’m glad you found my Magic Bullet Review very helpful. This single-serve-only blender is best for anyone looking for an affordable machine to make simple smoothies and recipes only.

It has a short shelf life and will most likely only last 2 to 3 years. This is why I highly recommend choosing a higher quality blender, like the NutriBullet, the Blendtec, or my personal favorite, the  Vitamix.

You will be able to create so many more recipes with these models and enjoy them for years to come!

  2. I have a Magic Bullet and love mine.  I would have to agree though that the lid does leak a lot for me.  I am not into nuts, so have not tried chopping any.  It works for everything I do, but is leaky.  I just recently bought a different brand, and it was cheaper (which I wondered how good it would be because of how cheap it was), but it works sooo much better and does not leak.

    • That’s great that you found a blender that works better for you, Leahrae!

Like the Magic Bullet, the smaller blenders only work for simple ingredient smoothies and not nuts or large batches of recipes.

This is why I needed an upgrade:)
