Finding the most healthy fast-food choices at restaurants isn’t always easy to do. And eating a healthy yet boring salad every single time isn’t something you’re looking forward to either.
However, there are many healthy fast food choices you can choose from so that you don’t always have to eat a bland high-calorie boring salad every time you got out, and I’m here to help you learn what these healthy food choices are.
Most Healthy Fast Food Choices
Fast Food Restaurants were created fast food to accommodate large amounts of people on the go, such as workers and travelers who don’t have time to sit down and eat inside of a restaurant.
Choosing healthy fast food can be a daunting task. I remember always reading the calories on the menu every time I went out because I thought that was the best way to eat healthy fast food.
You can definitely check the number of calories, too, but it’s also equally as important to look for healthy food that is not only low in saturated fat but is high in nutrients such as protein and fiber.
So, it’s best to choose fast foods that contain vegetables, beans, tofu, spinach, and other plant-based proteins. These types of foods will ensure you get the vitamins and nutrients needed to sustain a healthy balanced meal so that you’re not starving an hour later or feel bloated and uncomfortable after eating it.
How many times have you eaten fast food and then soon regretted it? I know I have so many times! This Is why I now always focus on eating healthy fast food that isn’t from Mcdonald’s.
Here are all of my favorite healthy fast-food go-to options that I always love to eat and want to share with you.
9 Delicious Fast-Food Options
Pretty much all sit-down restaurants offer take-out food. These restaurants can also be considered fast food and, in many cases, even healthier fast-food choices. So you don’t have to depend on places like McDonald’s boring high-calorie salads and fake smoothies anymore.
The only draw back is that many healthy fast-food restaurants don’t have a drive through. For most of these healthy fast food options listed below, you will likey have to go in and pick up your food or have it broght out to your car if they offer curb side pick up.
If you’re looking for healthy fast food that you can grab and go, here are some great options.
Bean Burritos. Tacos or rice bowls that you can load up with your favorite veggies, black beans, and chickpeas, roasted peppers, coleslaw, tomatoes, olives, guacamole, salsa, etc. This is a great choice for a fulfilling Mexican treat. It is super filling and loaded with many nutrients including, fiber and protein.
Quesada is my #1 favorite fast-food for bean burritos, tacos, and rice bowls. They’re super healthy and super delicious!
You can easily load up a delicious whole grain Sub or whole grain wrap with all of your favorite healthy veggie toppings, including spinach, onion, tomatoes, pickles, olives, guacamole, etc. Mustard is a great choice if you’re looking for zero calories; otherwise, choose any dressing you like to create your own healthy sub.
Subway is a great fast food restaurant to create delicious healthy, low-calorie subs and wraps.
Create a vegan pizza loaded with any vegetables you like! You can get pretty much any vegetables on your pizzas, including peppers, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, olives, spinach, eggplant, artichokes, zucchini, squash, spinach, kale, arugula, garlic, and pepper flakes.
Oven 360 is my favorite vegan fast food restaurant as they offer so many healthy toppings you can choose from. But many fast-food pizza restaurants offer many veggies you can get put on your pizza too.
4. Quinua/ Bowls
Freshii is a newer Canadian-based take-out franchise where you can order healthy fast food for people on the go. This fast-food chain offers many healthy food choices including, real fruit smoothies, tacos, salads, wraps, quinoa bowls, burritos, soups, and snacks, including coconut chia pudding and energy bites.
You can get nutritious superfoods such as kale, spinach, tofu, brown rice, quinoa, collard greens, beet slaw, healthy fats such as avocado and peanut sauce, and many plant proteins such as edamame beans, almonds, and black beans.
Freshii offers many vegetarian and vegan options to go! Hopefully, there will be more healthy fast-food restaurants like this one soon as more and more people are aware that eating healthy is very important!
If you don’t have a Freshii in your area just yet, try getting a quinoa bowl from a restaurant in the area you live in or from the grocery store nearest you.
5. Vegan Burgers and Baked Potatoes
You can pretty much get a vegan burger at any fast food restaurant these days. Vegan burgers are actually very healthy, as they’re mostly made from beans, tofu, spices, and herbs, depending on what brand they are made from. They are full of protein, just like a regular meat burger is, and definitely a great healthy choice.
You can also ask for extra romaine lettuce, pickles, and anything else you prefer to get more veggies. Most veggie burgers even come with a whole grain bun instead of the white buns.
If you go to Wendy’s, you can get a delicious Vegan Burger with a side Baked Potatoe instead of french fries as a healthier option.
Baked potatoes contian many healthy nutrients including potassium, magnesium, B vitamins, fiber and protein.
Sushi is an amazing choice. You can get many healthy veggie sushi rolls choices including, avocado cucumber, asparagus, mango, carrots, shiitake mushrooms, etc., depending on what restaurant you go to.
Many grocery stores now offer sushi as well. So stop in one, and you will most likely find sushi there that you can grab and go as a healthy fast-food take-out option.
7. Pad Tai & Buddha Bowls
If you decided to order pad tai, make sure it comes loaded with carrots, cucumbers, onions, red cabbage, etc. Pad tai is a stir-fried rice noodle dish that usually comes in some peanut sauce or like sauce that can either be mild or spicey (if you choose), that you can get loaded with veggies and tofu bean sprouts, nuts/seeds.
Or try a Buddha bowl. It contains many healthy ingredients including veggies, tofu and tahini dressing.
This is a great way to ensure you get a lot of fiber and protein in your meal.
My favorite pad tai is from Carrots n Dates, but you can also find pad tai at many fast-food courts located in many malls and at Chinese food restaurants.
8. Indian Food
Indian cuisine offers many healthy veggie choices including, chickpeas, lentils, potatoes, onions, peas, mushrooms, cauliflower, eggplants, etc.
You can try one of these dishes:
- Punjabi Baingan Masala – eggplants cooked with onion, tomatoes, and green chilies.
- Vegetable Biryani – rice mixed with vegetables, onions, and Indian spices.
- Samosas – crispy pastries loaded with potatoes, onions, and peas.
- Aloo Gobhi – Potato and cauliflower stir-fry.
- Saag Paneer – Spinach and cheese mixed with greens and spices.
- Yellow Dal – Yellow lentils simmered in spices and dry chilies bay leaves cumin seeds and garnished with coriander and fresh ginger.
- Daal Makhni – Black lentils, red kidney beans, spices.
- Chana Masala – Chickpeas with herbs and spices.
If you’re new to eating Indian food, 2 of my favorites dishes are Samosa and the Yellow Dal. They are both very healthy and definitely a must-try!
Take out offers many dishes, including some of my favorite healthy veggie side choices, including spinach pies, eggplant pita wraps, falafel wraps, hummus, quinoa bowls, tabooli, and fattoush salad.
Tabooli is a salad made of parsley, onion, tomatoes. Fattoush is more of a garden fresh salad with a delicious olive oil dressing. Spinach pies are loaded with spinach and delicious spices in a triangle-shaped flour pie.
You can put the salads into a pita wrap or try the eggplant pita wrap and spinach pies as the best fast food healthy choices.
Hamoudi is one of my favorite healthy fast food restaurant choices for this delicious and healthy middle-eastern food.
